Could my customers suffer a reaction to BioFlex®?
Of course! .... Everyone will love and admire it ...... starting with your customers themselves .. that's the sort of reaction you want, isn't it?
But seriously, it is extremely unlikely that your customes could react to BioFlex in any adverse manner. We have been using BioFlex based body piercing jewellery with 99% of the customers in our piercing studio for well over 5 years. In addition, we have supplied thousands items of BioFlex jewellery to customers throughout the country and worldwide. We have had absolutely no reports anywhere of any adverse reaction to BioFlex .... neither would we expect it. In fact there are a good many cases of problems being resolved with customers changing from metal body jewellery to BioFlex. In some cases the improvement was, literally, instant! We took a great deal of time and care in our research to ensure that the materials we selected are medical and surgical implant grade fully approved by the US and European authorities.
Any localised reaction you experience in a piercing with BioFlex, is therefore, probably due to some other irritant ... such as .... lack of proper hygiene, either in piercing or in aftercare, customers fiddling with jewellery instead of letting the piercing heal properly (you know that one?), jewellery catching on clothing etc, non-biocompatible material used in the accessories attached to the piercing (e.g. high nickel content surgical steel balls).
Obviously you will have a strategy for educating your customers in aftercare of their piercings. It goes without saying that this needs to be thoroughly reinforced for their own comfort and wellbeing.
As said, we have never found BioFlex to cause any reaction, which is why we prefer it to any other material. Indeed, if one of your customers find they are having a problem with another material, you could advise them to try BioFlex .... you may find, as we have, that just changing to BioFlex solves all sorts of reactive problems. Having said that, the age of the piercing is also relevant. The younger the piercing, the more important it is to use low risk materials like BioFlex (and PTFE and Titanium), which we use for new piercings. Surgical steel (316L), however, is unsuitable for use during the healing period of the piercing according to the European Nickel Directive. We know that this remains a very controversial point, but we will always opt for the safest solution ... we use BioFlex!
