How should I sterilise BioFlex® body jewellery?
BioFlex jewellery can be safely sterilised using any of the normal sterilising methods (all types of steam or vacuum autoclave). Once sterilised, of course, it can be handled in exactly the same way that you handle the remainder of your sterilised material and instruments. However, BioFlex becomes more malleable the hotter it gets, so make sure it is not under any weight or pressure inside the autoclave ... it will become mis-shapen ...
and it will retain the mis-shape as it cools.
If you consider this further, you will realise that you can form your own BioFlex shapes quite easily with the judicious use of heat ... surface piercings, for instance .. but be careful .. too much heat could change the chemical structure of the material.
The majority of the jewellery used in the Europierce piercing studio has been sterilised, sealed and processed by Royal Bournemouth Hospital NHS Trust. For the few items that have not had this treatment, the Autoclave performs its necessary function!
As you know, it is essential that you use only sterile jewellery whether it be purchased from BioFlex Traders or any other company. Never is this more important than in fresh, unhealed piercings. All the care you take in providing a sterile environment, tools and body jewellery is worth nothing if the customer is not properly versed in a hygienic cleaning procedure, and uses it with the piercing until it is fully healed.
